A Political Lesson for Intellectuals on India

I had to participate in Panchayat Election 2015 of U.P. State of India as a candidate for Membership of Block Development Committee (BDC), usually known as Kshetra Panchayat from my native village Khandoi in district Bulandshahr of the State. A person belonging to my village, but not living here normally, wanted to be elected by the people of the village unanimously for BDC without going to people for their votes. On his visits to the village, he used to provide belly-fill alcoholic liquor to drunkards of the village. In return, the drunkards declared their support to him in this misadventure and forced another candidate to surrender. As nobody had courage to confront the person and his drunkard supporters, I had to rise up and declared my candidature for the Membership of BDC to force an election. At this, that candidate left the field but engineered three more candidates for the position to oppose me.

Though people of the village are convinced of my honesty, uprightness, capability, etc needed for the position, but masses want much more than these. They wish to elect a person who would support them in fulfilling their right as well as wrong desires. I don't have those skills and temperament for getting mass-support for getting elected by the masses, hence I was alone when I declared my candidature. Later, few more persons joined me and supported me in getting votes of people, but each one with his own personal agenda. The result was obvious. I was defeated in the election by a large margin by another candidate who supports people even in their immoral actions.
But the effort didn't go in vain. I established through this election that an election could be fought on purely ideological lines without bribing voters in any way which I stuck to throughout the election process.
Second leg of the said Panchayat Elections is for the post of Village Chief (Pradhan) which is currently in process. The post is reserved for the most down-trodden sections of Indian people, called Scheduled Castes (SC). These castes have very few educated people and are often deficient in material resources. Therefore, capability of the person so elected is not a consideration but the idea is to provide a share of political power to the down-trodden classes of the society. Theoretically, the concept looks lucrative but suffers from many limitations of practical value.

Reservation Policy

Firstly, the reservation policy provides political authority to incapable persons providing massive opportunity to administrators to become autocratic, corrupt and inefficient. This is the worst cause for backwardness of India even after 68 years of India getting independence. This calls for not providing any reservation for political authority (posts in Governments including Panchayats) of the Nation  As far as uplifting of downtrodden classes is concerned, it can be served well through reservations in government employment opportunities only. For this, impairment of Governance and Administration of the Nation through reservations is proving counter-productive.
Secondly, reserved class people elected to political positions are often driven by their mean desires of getting rich quickly, hence such people are more corrupt than those of other classes further causing impairment to governance and administration of the Nation.
Thirdly, people of superior classes of the society often dominate over people of down-trodden people elected political positions making the former more autocratic and corrupt. Case of reservations for women for political positions provides a shameless view of how constitutionally elected functionaries of the Nation work through their veils and master-minded by their husbands and other relations.

Present Status

From the above case study, it is clear that since Intellectuals of India can't support illegitimate demands of masses, they never get massive support if they enter electoral politics. Hence, political authority of the Nation remains with mediocre populist politicians who often get involved in wrong activities for serving their vested interests which are anti-people and anti-Nation. With these politicians remaining unbridled, they have created an administrative set up in the country of the same type. With this happening in India since independence, it has been leading to formation of an Aristocratic political and Administrative hierarchy in the country usurping all the public resources of the Nation and exploiting helpless people of the country.

Intellectual Control on Politicians

Intellectuals can't determine who would capture political power in the country at any time. It depends on circumstantial factors and political manipulations of people by politicians contesting political elections. But this never means that Intellectuals have no role to play in Indian politics. They can certainly determine through their activism how politicians in power would behave. This would have a soothing impact on administrators too, who themselves are part and parcel of intellectual force of the Nation.
For purifying political scenario of the Nation, Intellectuals must not only keep their own eyes and ears open but also be eyes and ears of the Administration of the Nation for bringing erring politicians to book and putting illegitimate activities of politicians and administrators on record. Once such things are put on record, sooner or later the records have their impact on how the Nation is governed.

Constitutional Amendments Needed

Truly speaking, present India is not being governed democratically for the simple reason of victorious candidates in an election are not ensured of having support of more than 50 percent people of their electors. A simple maximum number of votes needed for a candidate for winning an election is against spirit of Democracy. No matured Democracy of the World has been working on this basis. This has been the reason for casteism and regionalism playing dominant roles in politics of the country. This has been a serious flaw in the Constitution of India needing immediate attention and activism of Intellectuals of the Nation. The subject can't be left to politicians who have been keeping in power for this flaw of the Constitution.
Second amendment in the Constitution needed is abolition of all sorts of reservations in the Nation. During the last 68 years, the reservations provided their best whatever has been possible. Continuation of these serves vested interests of nasty politicians and mars efficiency in governance of the Nation.

Practicing Intellectualism

Just opposite to the above-discussed organic sensitivity, the brain works sensibly through its logical reasoning and thinking faculty. Humans have the most evolved brains of all the species of life on the Earth. The brain gets its input of experiential information from memory, its process is thinking, and its output are commands to sensory and actuary organs of the body to act accordingly.
A living-being has two types of interactions with the external world - sensory to pick up information, and actuary to influence the external world. Former interaction is carried out by five sensory organs - eyes, ears, nostrils, finger-tips and tongue, while the latter is carried out by five actuary organs - speech, arms, legs, sex and excretory organs, of the body.
Both the sensory and actuary organs may perform their functions in two ways - subconscious and conscious. The subconscious performance is carried out fast under control of the mind - the neuronal network spread in the body. For example, 'seeing' is a sensory input at subconscious level while its counterpart 'watching' is a conscious sensory activity. While a subconscious sensory actions leave no or a light impression on the memory, this doesn't enrich the person with more experiential information, conscious sensory activity of watching deeply records the information gathered in the memory which may be retrieved back later and utilized if need be. Similar differentiation applies to all the five sensory organs of a body. Thus, only conscious sensory activities add to a person's experiences.
Our actuary organs too act in two different ways. Routine reflexes of the body caused by instinct of survival and safety are operated by the mind with no involvement of the brain. Even oft-repeated activities by tongue, hands and feet, and excretion organs may also be performed at subconscious level under control of the mind only. Such operations are performed fast by the person. Conscious working involves a long process of tracking relevant experiential information from memory, thinking and commanding the actuary organs concerned, hence it is time-consuming and somehow inconvenient to lazy persons.
Subconscious approach is based on habits and controls only oft-repeated sensing and activities by the body, while every new activity essentially needs conscious approach with involvement of the brain. Conscious actions leave a deeper impression of experiential information on the memory for future uses. But even oft-repeated activities may be taken up consciously through involvement of the brain.  This slows down the activities as compared to those with subconscious approach, but keeps the brain always in active mode, hence sharp. The sharpness of the brain and its remaining in ever-active mode expedites conscious activities somehow.
A person has the options open to him for each sensory and actuary operation for putting into subconscious or conscious mode. Based on this, he/she gets enriched by experiential information and capability of putting his/her brain to apply for solving a problem. All intellectual and creative activities by a person need involvement of his/her brain, hence are conscious activities. Persons too much habitual and dependent on the use of their minds only can perform routine activities faster but become incapable of using their brains for intellectual and creative activities. Thus, intellectualism requires regular practice of using of using brain by a person.
It is not that the habitual practices have no positive role in human life and only intellectual practices are sufficient to serve all purposes of life. Habitual practices save on human resources and their capabilities, hence essential from economy point of view. It is similar to production at mass scale of a developed is essential to make it available to the large human population, while development of the product using creative talent is also essential without which no production would be possible. Thus, both the conscious and subconscious activities are essential to human life in overall perspective.

Therefore, if you want to be an intellectual some day, do most of the sensory and actuary activities consciously, and make it a habit of your body. You would soon find a quantum change in your outlook, ways of working and your favorite things to do.

6 Elements of Harmonious Living

Every moment of your life is precious because you get it only once and it passes on whether you misuse it, disuse it or make the best out of it. Purpose of living a moment, every moment should be getting a happy feel. There are only 6 elements of living which are indispensable for each and every human-being. And, mind their order of priority as provided by their placements below.
Beware, the 6 subheads below may sound well-known to you through noises all around from vested interests to drive you crazy and loosen your purse for them, but the senses I attach to them are different from what you may be knowing. So, please check out precisely through the details.

Your Inspirations

Forces in the form of persons, nature and wherever you put your faith on are your inspirations like the air you breathe in every moment of your life. They are the sources of your spiritual strength you need every moment of your life. But these sources may be misguiding you too, if you have not chosen them by yourself but gone by advices of others, your routine education, or as told to you by your parents and social contacts. Religion is such a mischievous guide often thought to be an inspiring force.
Your parents must be the first and foremost inspirations for you but not their advices on other inspirations. Problem of modern parents is that either they are too busy to be too good, or too misguided to be too bad to you. Respect them as your parents, but judge their ways of life lest these corrupt your life too.
What is not realizable by you through your intellect and wisdom of your sensory organs can't be an effective inspiration to you. The best inspiration is one that moves with you every moment of your life and inspires you at your pace. Some books may pass this test, so are their authors - living or dead.
Some people opine that a spiritual guru is a must for uplifting force of life. This is sheer nonsense. If you need a real guru, go to your primary school teacher or someone like him - the greatest one to inspire you so far. For final guidance in this matter, ask your own spirit of life and none else.

Your Spirit

Apart from owning the physical persona, you are a spirit composed of your wisdom and intellect, built on your instincts, education and experiences so far. Your self-esteem, self-confidence, value system, etc are important attributes of your spirit. Respect these and keep these beyond bargains of your routine and commercial life.
Your spirit is your guide every moment of your life, particularly in moments of distress and excitements.

Your Persona

Basically your health is your persona but it extends beyond that to what is usually known as your personality that includes everything in you including your spirit of life, discussed above. It is built through breathing in clean air, intakes of healthy food, body-care for protection from climatic extremities through clothing and shelter, physical hurts, etc and regular physical movements of your organs - for productive work, a creative endeavor or an exercise. Better use your physical movements for productive purposes and for saving yourself from paying for others services to you. Better be self-reliant as far as possible.
Your mental health is an important part of your persona as it is that of your spirit. It is ultimately determined by the concepts of life you pursue in your routines, relationships and profession. Being crazy, having a craving, getting excited or distressed often, etc are indicators of bad mental health. Some people consider a good memory as an indicator of mental health which I beg to differ seriously. In my view, it is immaterial what you forget but what you remember is important as an indicator of your mental health.
Outcomes of a healthy persona are your feeling healthy every moment, your impressive looks, and your sensuality for healthy relationships with your chosen persons. Never mind if you are not accommodative to everyone for your family and social relationships. None is made to accommodate all.

Your Relationships

Each one of us has relationships, or is expected to have, in four sectors - with the self, within the family, within one's society, and with professional colleagues, superiors and subordinates. Anybody failing in having a sweet relationship with the self would fail in making any relationship of some value. Loving your own values is the criterion of relating to the self.
It is better to have good relationship with everyone coming in contact, but it is the best to take care of your value system through your relationships too. So, don't worry if you are at variance with some persons in your contacts.
Again, it is not important whom you drop from developing sweet relationships, but it is critical whom you keep in contacts. Ultimately, you are known by the company you keep. So, don't tarnish your image by pleasing everyone, be your real self in developing relationships.

Your Aspirations

Etymologically as well as in practice, aspirations are set just opposite to inspirations - former for influencing the external world and the latter for getting influenced by the external world. Human life has a purpose of coming into existence and living for a long period of time for is intellectual evolution.
Every work has an intellectual value in it, respect it, enhance it and continue with it. This makes every moment of life a moment of intellectualism. So, live purposefully every moment - at home, at work and even during a relaxation. Set your goals on long term, medium term, short term and even for every momentary step of your life and move on with them.

Your Economy

Human life has evolved differently from natural way of living, hence has economic considerations at every moment of it. Take care of your personal economy through working productively enough for a living and support to the family. But don't nullify yourself with the productivity syndrome - keep on working for wealth losing health and other pleasures of living. Keep a balance between personal, working, family and social life. For an average person, recommended durations are 12, 6, 4 and 2 hours, respectively, on an average in a day for a happy and contented lifestyle.
